Born in 1986 in Mosfellsbaer, Iceland, Olafur Arnalds began as a drummer in hardcore metal bands before transitioning to symphonic composition, gaining early attention supporting Sigur Ros on tour. Signed to Erased Tapes since 2007, his catalog moves between classical and pop – sometimes called “post-classical” – built on wistful melodies, haunting strings, and subtle electronics. Albums include Eulogy for Evolution (2007), Living Room Songs (2011), re:member (2018), and some kind of peace (2020), which earned two Grammy nominations and was named NPRs album of the year.
