American composer and instrument-builder Constance Demby (1939-2021) combined classical piano training with sculptural instrument design, creating the Sonic Steel Space Bass and Whale Sail. Her 1986 album Novus Magnificat: Through the Stargate, self-described as Spacemusic, sold over 200,000 copies and helped establish Hearts of Space Records. Demby died in Pasadena, California, on March 20, 2021, at age 81, following a heart attack.
