Born in 1965 in Yerevan, Gevorg Dabaghyan studied at the Komitas State Conservatory and is now a professor of duduk at the Yerevan State Musical Conservatory. He founded the Shoghaken Folk Ensemble in 1991 and was elevated to People’s Artist of the Republic of Armenia in 2017. He is documented as one of the first duduk players to perform excerpts of the Divine Liturgy of the Armenian Church on the instrument, and he participated in Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Project, appearing on Silk Road Journeys: Beyond the Horizon (2005).
