Tony Duncan is of San Carlos Apache descent through his father and Mandan-Hidatsa-Arikara descent through his mother. He first played an Apache river-cane flute made by his father before receiving cedar flutes from his mother’s family. A multiple Native American Music Awards Artist of the Year and Dance/USA Fellow, he has performed as both flutist and champion hoop dancer at venues including the White House, the Kennedy Center, and the Smithsonian.
