English composer and producer Michael Hoppe, born in 1944 in Cairo, spent the early 1980s as head of A&R for PolyGram Records, signing artists including Vangelis, Jean-Michel Jarre, and Kitaro before leaving in 1984 to compose full time. Describing his own work as heart music for healing and meditation, he has released more than thirty albums; his 2003 album Solace earned a Grammy nomination for Best New Age Album.
