Meditation

Sophie Hutchings is a Sydney-based pianist and composer from a musical family (her father toured with Frank Sinatra; her brother fronts Bluebottle Kiss), influenced by shoegaze, ambient music, and post-classical pioneer Johann Johannsson. Her elegant post-classical style ranges from soothing and melancholy to urgent, built on delicate piano melodies with strings, woodwind, and ethereal vocals. Her 2010 debut, Becalmed, was followed by eight further studio albums including Scattered on the Wind (2020, her Mercury KX debut), and Echoes in the Valley (2021), which topped the UK classical album charts; she won her first ARIA Award in 2024.
