Masayoshi Fujita is a Japanese vibraphonist, marimba player, and composer based for 13 years in Berlin, before relocating to the rural mountain village of Kami-cho, Hyogo, to create music closer to nature. He began as a drummer before extensive vibraphone training led him toward his own jazz- and electronic-influenced compositions, initially recording as “el fog” before working under his own name. Signed to Erased Tapes after being discovered by founder Robert Raths in 2012, he has released five LPs – Stories (2013), Apologues (2015), Book of Life (2018), Bird Ambience (2021), and Migratory (2024, incorporating field recordings inspired by bird migration) – and prepares his vibraphone with metal and foil to expand its sonic range.
