Meitei (real name Daisuke Fujita) is a Hiroshima-born, Kyoto-based composer working in ambient and experimental music. After eight years as a freelance composer across genres, he shifted toward his own material, deeply informed by his years living in Kyoto and centered on what he calls the “lost Japanese mood” – the fading aesthetics of a bygone era slipping from collective memory. His acclaimed trilogy – Kwaidan (2018), Komachi (2019), and the Kofu series (2020-2023) – transposes Japanese folklore, nighttime themes, and archival vinyl samples into hypnotic ambient and lo-fi compositions; Kwaidan was named among Pitchforks Best Experimental Albums of 2018.
