Born Stanislav Tonne in the Ukrainian SSR in 1975, of Jewish and German ancestry, Estas Tonne took up classical guitar at age eight. After his family moved to Israel in 1990 he stopped playing for eleven years, resuming in New York in 2001 as part of a duo with violinist Michael Shulman before becoming a solo touring modern-day troubadour. His music draws on flamenco and Spanish classical guitar traditions layered with Romani and fingerstyle influences. He has released seven studio albums and four live albums, including Internal Flight, Place of the Gods (2011), and Bohemian Skies.
