Earth Traditions

Career era: 2014-presentActiveVariable - dark ambient and shamanic to more intense material.

Anilah is the project of Canadian vocalist Andrea Drury, who grew up in a rural mountain village in interior British Columbia. She studied psychoacoustic sound design, music therapy, and voice alchemy with mentors including Silvia Nakkach and the late Ali Akbar Khan, and her work explores music, art, and ritual as transformational medicine. Her sound blends dark ambient, world tribal, and shamanic elements. Her debut EP Warrior (2014) was followed by a 2015 collaboration with Einar Selvik of Wardruna and the full album Chrysalis (2021); her music has been featured on the History Channels Vikings and CBCs New Eden.

Editorial note: Some of Anilahs catalog includes heavier, more intense instrumentation alongside her ambient and shamanic work – worth noting for playlist curation, since not all of her catalog reads as calm or contemplative.

Mood and energy: Variable – dark ambient and shamanic to more intense, driving material. Recommended uses: Deep listening, ritual, atmospheric background (selected tracks).
