Founder Reflection

Beneath the Surface
with Deneene

Deneene — Founder, Sacred Ground

Every mineral that arrives at Sacred Ground began long before any of us — formed through heat, pressure, movement, fracture, and time on a scale almost impossible to comprehend. Each carries a geological story written deep within the Earth over millions, and sometimes billions, of years.

What has always fascinated me is not only the science of these materials, but the human relationship we form with them once they reach our hands.

Some people walk in as collectors, geologists, or lapidary artists. Others arrive drawn to symbolism, meditation, energy work, or ritual. Most exist somewhere in between — and all of it is welcome here.

You do not have to believe in metaphysics to appreciate the beauty and complexity of the natural world. You do not have to understand mineralogy to feel connected to a stone, a sound, or a moment of stillness. This space was built intentionally to hold all of those perspectives at once.

At its core, Earth & Ether exists to explore the intersection between geology and wonder, science and spirit — creating space for curiosity, exploration, and thoughtful conversation around the many ways people seek meaning, grounding, and understanding.

What’s New at Sacred Ground

Imperial Topaz

Imperial Topaz  ·  Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais

Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais, Brazil

This month’s newest arrivals were gathered during a recent buying trip through Berlin and include several pieces that immediately stood out for both their geological beauty and rarity.

Among the newest additions is this remarkable Imperial Topaz specimen — origin: Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais, Brazil, the most celebrated source of Imperial Topaz in the world. Ouro Preto — “Black Gold” — was founded during Brazil’s 17th century gold rush, built on ancient granite and schist formations that produced the extraordinary topaz deposits that made this region famous among collectors and gemologists worldwide.

Also arriving this month is an unusually expressive Green Tourmaline on matrix featuring intricate secondary tourmaline growth throughout — the kind of mineral formation that rewards closer observation the longer you study it — alongside several distinctive agates with uncommon internal formations and color movement unlike anything we’ve previously carried.

As always, pieces chosen for Sacred Ground are selected not only for rarity or beauty, but for the sense of curiosity they create.

Featured Practitioner

Cheryl
Cheryl

Reflexology  ·  Holistic Center

Some forms of healing ask us to slow down enough to actually listen to the body.

Cheryl’s reflexology sessions offer a deeply grounding experience designed to support relaxation, nervous system balance, and overall energetic restoration through focused pressure points and intentional touch.

Quietly restorative and remarkably calming, reflexology often creates a sense of stillness people do not realize they have been missing. What makes Cheryl’s work especially meaningful is its simplicity — just thoughtful presence, care, and rhythm. The understanding that the body often communicates long before the mind catches up.

For some, reflexology is approached through the lens of wellness and physical relaxation. For others, it becomes something more meditative and energetic. Sacred Ground welcomes both perspectives equally.

The Mysteries of Egypt
with Rose

Rose and Armando at the Pyramids of Giza

Some journeys change the way you understand everything — including the stones beneath your feet.

Rose recently traveled to Egypt with her husband Armando, standing at the base of the Great Pyramids of Giza — one of the most geologically, spiritually, and historically significant places on Earth. Built over 4,500 years ago from an estimated 2.3 million blocks of limestone and granite, the pyramids remain one of humanity’s greatest unsolved mysteries.

How were they built? What did they mean? What energy still lives within them? These are exactly the kinds of questions Sacred Ground was built to explore.

Ancient Egyptians believed deeply in the power of stone — not just as building material, but as a conduit for energy, protection, and connection to the divine. Lapis lazuli, carnelian, turquoise, malachite, and obsidian were not decorative. They were intentional — chosen with knowledge passed down through generations of priests, healers, and architects who understood that the Earth itself was sacred.

At Sacred Ground, we carry a curated selection of items sourced from or inspired by Egypt — pieces that carry that same intention. If you have ever felt drawn to Egyptian symbolism, sacred geometry, or the mystery of ancient stone structures, these items are worth exploring in the shop.

Rose is traveling for the summer and will return to Sacred Ground at the end of August. We look forward to welcoming her back.

Science & Spirit

The Stone That Remembers

“Every crystal is a record of pressure, time, and chemistry — a story written in atomic structure.”

When we look at a mineral specimen, we’re looking at geology made visible. A quartz crystal didn’t simply appear — it grew, atom by atom, over thousands to millions of years, in conditions we can barely replicate in a laboratory.

Whether you experience that as science, as spirit, or as both — Sacred Ground considers it worth paying attention to. The beauty is that you don’t have to choose.

Community Voices

“I expected a small crystal gift shop and walked into something completely different. The collection, the atmosphere, and the knowledge behind the specimens made it feel less like shopping and more like stepping into a thoughtfully curated private collection. I’ve already been back several times.”

Adornment & Custom Crystal Wrapping
with Benz

Benz custom crystal wrapping

Some pieces are collected. Others become personal.

At Sacred Ground, visitors often discover a mineral or crystal they feel unexpectedly connected to. Through his custom wrapping work, Benz helps transform many of those pieces into wearable adornments designed to preserve both the beauty and individuality of the stone itself.

Rather than mass-produced settings, each wrapping is approached as a collaborative and highly personal process — a finished piece that feels aligned with both the mineral and the person wearing it.

The result exists somewhere between geology, craftsmanship, symbolism, and self-expression — a way of carrying a meaningful piece of the Earth in a form that feels intentional, artistic, and entirely your own.

Whether someone is drawn to a crystal for its mineralogical beauty, personal meaning, or simple emotional connection, the experience remains the same: thoughtful, creative, and deeply individual.
